The Andersonville Trust is administered by the Friends of Andersonville, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to providing assistance to Andersonville National Historic Site, so that the story of Andersonville and the prisoners of war story may be told to all. It is the story of triumph of the human spirit over adversity, of men and women honorably captured in battle; a story of hardship, deprivation, disease, and often death.

Almost daily, we are all made aware of government down-sizing, fiscal restraints, and efforts to reduce the cost of government. With this in mind, and the effect it is having on the National Park Service and specifically Andersonville NHS, we are urging you to join a large group of supporters of The Andersonville Trust.

Fund-raising for the Trust began with a very generous grant of $150,000 from the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation, and the endowment has recently exceeded its long-held goal of attaining $1 million in the corpus. The main source of funding for the Trust is from donations submitted in honor of former prisoners of war and their spouses, as well as from donations from the estates of deceased POWs.

Since its founding in 1996, using only the Interest and dividends realized from the corpus, the Andersonville Trust has made over $269,000 in donations to the park and National Prisoner of War Museum. Among those was the purchase and donation of 20 acres of land to Andersonville NHS, which allowed for the creation of a safe entrance to the site. The Trust also partnered with the NPS to fund the production of a new orientation film, which is shown at the National Prisoner of War Museum. Other grants have been made for interpretive programs, resource protection, the preservation and documentation of archival and museum objects, as well as research and maintenance of the Museum and park.

The Andersonville Trust provides supporters the opportunity to aid in the preservation of an important part of the national heritage. Proud that Andersonville was selected for the opportunity to honor those Americans captured and confined as prisoners of war, any donation, large or small, will be used to honor these heros and help to continue to help tell their story. Andersonville Trust. Our nation, born of freedom, honors those that lost their freedom. Please join us in our efforts to support this worthy cause.
